Away Retreat @ KMC NY Temple for World Peace

THE HEALING POWER OF LOVE
with Gen Kelsang Chogyop & John Baker

Friday, June 6 – Sunday, June 8

Joint Retreat with KMC Philadelphia, Menlha KMC & Dharmachakra KBC at the beautiful temple at Kadampa Meditation Center, Glen Spey NY

Everyone welcome.

In our annual Away Retreat, we’ll explore how it’s possible to improve all our relationships using Buddha’s wisdom. We’ll look at questions such as: Isn’t our deepest wish to find stable love? In fact, our most  heartfelt wish as human beings is simply to be happy. Buddha teaches us that we can achieve this goal by learning to love others. Through cultivating meaningful relationships with others starting with our close circle of family and friends, our love begins to grow and along with it our happiness.

But there’s a  problem. Often it can seem that the very people we are trying to love are the ones standing in the way of our happiness! Those we love can test us, push our buttons, try our patience and fail to meet our wishes and expectations. How are we to maintain our love for others amidst the everyday challenges that pop up in all of our relationships? In Buddha’s teachings we can find the answers we are looking for.  These teachings give us the ability to continuously improve all of our relationships because we can learn to recognize the difference between real love and our unrealistic ideas about love.

The retreat feeling is guaranteed to refresh and enrich you. It is also wonderful to have the opportunity to relax in the Temple's beautiful, quiet environment, so conducive to developing the inner experience of these beautiful meditations. Between sessions we can enjoy each other's company and make new friendships.

In these turbulent times, it is very meaningful to come together as a community and learn Buddhist teachings on cultivating peaceful minds and cherishing others. This ancient wisdom is as relevant today as it was 2,500 years ago.

Join us for a special community inspired event with Kadam Morten Clausen*, the Eastern US National Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition. During our time together, we will gain insight on how to navigate through difficult times skillfully and with a calm mind.

By learning to cherish others we can experience greater peace of mind and help to establish world peace in general. If everyone sincerely prays to be able to cherish others, then gradually through the power of prayer, everyone will actually cherish each other. The world will then be permanently at peace, and pure and everlasting happiness will pervade the entire world.

“We should know that the best method for attaining World Peace is by learning to cherish others.”
- Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

In Kadampa Buddhism, the practice of transference of consciousness is known as 'powa,' which literally means "transference". Join us each month to explore this ancient practice which involves guiding the consciousness of the recently deceased to the Pure Land of Buddha, a world free from the painful rebirths of samsara.

This class follows the monthly Prayers for the Recently Deceased Practice. This class will be based on the book Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, which is available in our bookstore, or here in e-book, paperback, and audiobook formats.
